…:: ~My Hair Story~ ::…
When I was younger My hair had been very thick and about shoulder length. This was way before Relaxers and what ever else. I remember my mother overloading my hair with Vasaline and I remember crying and rubbing my face and burning my eyes and also have my teachers upset with me because of all the oily finger prints on my classwork/homework.
I don’t remember when I got my first relaxer but from what my mom has told me. She took me to the hair salon and they straight up said that they couldn’t do my hair with out it being relaxed. So, it was relaxed and my hair has never been the same.
For years I wondered why my hair never grew past my shoulders while my friends who had straight and wavy hair has massive lengths they they happily chopped off and grew again. It wasn’t untill 2009 however when my quest for long hair began in earnest.
For my birthday in January I was given a weave which I was told would grow my hair. It didn’t. In stead my hair was destroyed and my measly shoulder length hair barely even reached my neck by June. Years down the drain. It was from they on that I grew to hate hair salons and hair dressers who think they know whats best. I realized that they used a cookie cutter method of everyones hair and that no matter how many products they recommend to you it doesn’t mean that they will work for you.
So I looked up online, various books and products and searched through forums looking desperately for information. Unable to live with my short hair any longer. I started wearing wigs and when my hair grew long enough occasionally I’d wear a ponytail piece or a bun.
So far my hair has grown about 4inches since that traumatic experience but it’s been a rough road to travel down and thous inches came with dedication and will power. My ultimate goal now is for my hair to be over 24 inches. My dream length is about 40inches which would be around my thighs because Im fairly tall.
I figure that if hair grows about 6 inches a year that in 4 years I’ll have my 24 inches and in3 more years time I’ll have 42 inches!
It seems long and I’m already slightly discouraged but thats why I made this blog. To prove to myself that I can do it. I can have nice long thick healthy hair.
